Reflection and Fantasy is a piece that is descriptive of two different types of daydreams. Here, the composer intended to create a work that would allow him to use a wide range of the instrument while creating two complimentary moods. The Reflection is filled with longing and has an introspective quality. The serene mood of this movement allows the instrument to be heard in its warmest voice.
The Fantasy provides a refreshing counterpoint to the Reflection. The joyful flight of an imaginary world is captured in this technically challenging movement. Here the melody dances in a world of wonder and excitement.
